The participations of professional players in the official player acceptance list for the Aegean Tennis Cup, have over passed any expectation! From the 22 main draw acceptances, 13 are below the world’s No 150 in the official ATP ranking! Two of them are Israel’s Dudi Sela and the American Bobby Reynolds holding positions no 58 and 65 respectively!!
The tournament is also hosting a player that was for 4 years a member of the top 10 of the official ATP rankings, Swede player Joachim Johansson, who on 14/2/2004 climbed up to World’s number 9. The talent of players that excelled in tournaments like ATP-Masters and Grand Slams will be unfolded in the hard courts of Rhodes this year, like the fast rising in ranking Sombey Devvarman from India that played in the final of Chennai, or Sela that went to the semifinals of Memphis previously in 2009.
Other names with special value in the tournament are Slovak Karol Beck (no 36 in 2005) who has already 2 titles in challengers (doubles in Besancon and Bergamo), and the German Benjamin Becker, (No 38 in 2007) winner of the Heilborn Challenger this year. The Frenchman Nicolas Mahut, (no 40 last year and no 25 in doubles) and the literraly 2-meter Australian Chris Guccione (no 67 last year) quarter finalist of the Brisbane tournament this year.
